Madagascar send Congo packing after penalty shoot-out

Madagascar sent DR Congo packing in the AFCON tournament after both teams played a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes of action on Sunday.

Madagascar attacker Ibrahim Amanda broke the deadlock with a long-range shot that flew to the top right corner of the post in the 9th minute of the clash after he received a pass Nomenjanahary Lalaina.

Cedric Bakambu headed in the equaliser to make it 1-1 in the 21st minute of the clash of the game to make the tie more intriguing.

The first half ended 1-1.

Bakambu had an opportunity to put Congo ahead but his touch was had enough to put the ball in the net. Madagascar also lost some decent chances.

Madagascar scored the second goal from a quick counter-attack that was well executed in the 77th minute, as a cross from Metanire Romain to Andriatsima Faneva to make it 2-1 in favour of the Barea.

Congo tried to find the equaliser but Madagascar was very effective in blocking every move made by the Congolese player.  

Congo grabbed the equaliser in the last minute of the normal regulation time to make it 2-2  from a beautiful header from Mbemba Chancel.

The game is headed into the extra time after both teams played 2-2 in the normal regulation time.  Madagascar had the first goal attempt in the extra time but it caused no havoc it was comfortable for the Congo goalkeeper to del with.

Congo forced Madagascar goalkeeper into a save from another header Mbemba. The extra time ended goalless as both team headed for penalty.

Madagascar conerted all their spot kick while Congo blasted two of their kick up in the air.

The scoreline was 2-2 but the penalty shoot-out ended in 4-2 in favour of the Barea.
