Mane & Firmino's strikes ensure Liverpool beat Southampton

Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino's strikes either side of the break was enough as Liverpool beat Southampton 2-1 at Saint Mary Stadium on Saturday afternoon encounter despite Danny Ings' late goal for the home side.

Senegal international put Jurgen Klopp's men ahead in first-half stoppage time with a thunderous strike from the edge of the penalty area.

Mane turned provider for Roberto Firmino twenty minutes from the time who nestled the ball into the bottom left corner to double the Reds lead.

It wasn't all plain sailing for the visitors when Southampton pulled a goal back through ex-Liverpool man Danny Ings eight minutes from time.

After receiving a back pass from Virgil Van Dijk, Adrian hit the ball against the oncoming striker who watched the ball roll into the net.

This set up a tense finale but was not enough to deter Liverpool who held out to maintain their 100% start to the season but Reds welcome Arsenal to Anfield next weekend in the Premier League matchday three fixtures.
