1996 Olympic hero Amuneke appointed as Tanzania coach

1996 Olympic hero Emmanuel Amuneke has been appointed as the new head coach of Tanzania senior national team.

The 47-year-old former Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona winger signed a two-year contract with the TFF on Monday. His salary will be bankrolled by Serengeti Beer.

Amuneke immediate task will be to help Tanzania qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after a faulty start with his first official game in charge against Uganda in Kampala September 7th AFCON qualifiers.

Tanzania were held to a draw in Dar es Salaam by Lesotho in their first Group L clash.

"I’m ready for this big task. Tanzania is not one of the top footballing nations in Africa but I hope to transform the Taifa Stars to a good team,” Amuneke told  Goal.com prior to his unveiling on Monday.

One time African player of the year who last coaching job was at Sudanese club, Al Khartoum SC and he was also a member of the FIFA Technical Study group at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
