30 football fans killed by high tension cable in Calabar

30 football fans in Cross River state capital Calabar have been reported dead after a high tension cable fell on them at a football viewing centre on Thursday night during a UEL match between Manchester United and Anderlecht.

The football fans were said to have assembled at the centre to watch a UEFA Europa League quarter-final match when the incident happened.

According to a report by Channels TV, the electric cable broke and fell on a crowd of football fans who had gathered at a viewing centre to watch the UEFA Europa League quarter-final fixture involving Manchester United and Anderlecht on Thursday night.

A survivor in an interview with newsmen according to the report revealed that a transformer near the viewing centre located in the Inyang-Esu area of Calabar Municipal Local Government area, exploded during the match. He said the transformer explosion caused the high-tension cable to drop on the viewing centre.
