AC Milan have appointed former Rossoneri midfielder Gennaro Gattuso till the end of the season to replace sacked Vincenzo Montella

Montella’s position had come under increasing threat after a goalless draw with Torino on Sunday, and he has now been relieved of his duties by the Serie A giant after taking over the affair of San Siro in the summer of 2016 after spells with Roma, Catania, Fiorentina, and Sampdoria.

Gattuso, who returned to the Rossoneri over the summer, taking charge of their Primavera team.

"The technical management of the team is entrusted to Mr. Gennaro Gattuso, who leaves his post as Primavera coach, and to whom AC Milan offers the warmest wishes for good work. Tomorrow the press conference will be presented at the AC Milan training venue in Milanello according to the club website.

The 39-year-old Italian played for Milan between 1999 and 2013 winning two Champions League, two UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, two Serie A, title and Coppa Italia, Supercoppa.

He left in the summer of 2012 and went on to coach Sion, OFI Crete, Palermo, and Pisa but failed to lead any of the quartets to success.
