Algeria 2-1 Nigeria: Mahrez breaks Super Eagles' heart

Riyad Mahrez was on song after he scored a last minute screamer to  powered Algeria to the finals of the AFCON following the 2-1 win over Nigeria on Sunday

Algeria took the game to Nigeria as they aim to break the deadlock in the 7th minute of the encounter after Akpeyi's blunder but the game went narrowly off the target.

The Super Eagles were made to chase the ball following the domination from the Algerian side. Nigeria gradual build their confidence as they gained more ground as the game progresses.

Akpeyi made a wonderful save to deny Algeria forward following an error from Omeuero but the defence did well to manage the Algerian attack.

Nigeria created some chances but they were unable to put the needed finishing touch to the chances, Algeria broke the deadlock with just five minutes to end the first 45 minutes as Willian Troost-Ekong diverted Riyad Mahrez cross into his own net.

The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Algeria.

Nigeria put up a brighter performance in the second half as they aim to find the equalising goal in the opening 10 minutes.

Nigeria was awarded a penalty in the 71st minute after Algerian defender Mandi handed a ball in the box, Odion Igalo made no mistake from the spot to convert the penalty kick.

Algeria almost got the winning goal but they were denied by the woodwork but in the final minute, Riyad Mahrez scored from a screamer from a free-kick to send Algeria to the finals.
