All you need to know about the 2019 African Cup of Nations, (AFCON) draw in Egypt as the continent’s football governing body, the Confederation of African Football, CAF, is all set to conduct the draw on Friday night.

The draw for the tournament in Egypt will take place in Cairo on Friday night and CAF confirmed the drawing pots one day ahead of the spectacle.

The pots and seedings of the 24 qualified teams were decided based on the latest FIFA World rankings (released 4 April 2019), which is globally accepted and portrays a true reflection of the state of the qualified teams.

Egypt is pooled in Pot 1 because of their status as hosts of the competition whiles Cameroon is also in the same pot by virtue of being the defending champions but Super Eagles who last appeared at the AFCON finals in 2013 in South Africa and won the title after edging out Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final courtesy of Sunday Mba’s first-half strike.

Only Egypt’s slot is known because they are the first team in what will become Group A but several former African football stars like Yaya Toure, Mark Fish, El Hadji Diouf, Moustafa Hadji, Emmanuel Amunike  and Ahmed Hassan amongst others are expected to witness the ceremony.

Pot 1: Egypt (hosts) – Cameroon – Nigeria – Senegal – Tunisia – Morocco

Pot 2: DR Congo – Ghana – Mali – Ivory Coast – Guinea – Algeria

Pot 3: South Africa – Uganda – Benin – Mauritania – Madagascar – Kenya

Pot 4: Zimbabwe – Namibia – Guinea Bissau – Angola – Tanzania – Burundi
