Amunike becomes third coach sack after 2019 AFCON exit

Emmanuel Amunike becomes the third coach sack in Egypt after Tanzania exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations group stage.

The 46-year-old former Barcelona, Sporting Lisbon and Zamalek winger who guided the Taifa Stars to the 32nd edition of Africa most glamorous competition after 39 years they last appeared in the tournament

The Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) issued a formal statement on its official website on Monday morning after the Taifa Stars bombed out of the first stage of the tournament in Egypt last week.

"The TFF thanked the former Nigeria international for taking the side back to Africa's flagship football tournament and said they will begin the process of getting a new coach immediately.

"We will return to our country and evaluate the situation with the Football Federation because there are many things that need hard work to put in place," he said.

"Team coaches will be announced after the Emergency Committee Committee meeting meets July 11, 2019.

"The search for the new Coach has started immediately,” the statement concludes.

Amunike has been coach of Tanzania since 6 August 2018 will be the third casualty of the Africa Cup of nations after Egypt terminated the contract of Javier Aguirre, Uganda parts ways with Sebastien Desabre.
