ARS 2-0 SOU: Gunners put two past Southampton

Arsenal was on song against Southampton following their 2-0 victory over the Saints at Emirate Stadium on Sunday.

Southampton had the first opportunity in the clash but a brilliant save from Bernd Leno prevented the away team from going ahead and a counter attacker almost immediately resulted into a goal for Arsenal in the 5th by Alexandre Lacazette.

A pressure from arsenal attacker on Southampton centre back led to a panic pass to the goalkeeper who cleared the ball hurriedly to Alex Iwobi and the Nigerian forward connected Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the box to double Arsenal led in the 16th minute.

Southampton created some chances but the solid display the Arsenal defence prevented such from happening in the 20th minute.

Lacazatte wasted an opportunity to give Arsenal the third goal but he blasted his effort wide.

The first half ended in 2-0 in favour of the home team.

Arsenal moved to get the third goal in the second half as Southampton aim to get back into the game. Aaron Ramsey was substituted for Mesut Ozil in the 59th minute.

Southampton showed more zeal going forward against the home team as they aim to reduce the deficit against the home team.
