Vieira, Arteta IN as Arsenal shortlists 5 to replace Wenger

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is looking increasingly likely to become the new Nice manager as the French club want him to take over their vacant managerial position and are 'increasingly confident' of luring him away from the MLS.

The Ligue 1 side, who just missed out on Europa League qualification last season, finishing in eighth, have identified Vieira as their No 1 candidate to succeed Lucien Favre after he left for Borussia Dortmund.

According to the Times, Nice are expecting to secure Vieira's services in the coming weeks after chasing him since May.

The Frenchman is in his third season at New York City and has been linked with a return to Europe, having been considered to replace Arsene Wenger earlier this year.

According to French publication, L'Equipe, Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere is hoping to announce Vieira's appointment as early as this weekend.

However, Vieira is currently in America and is understood to be taking charge for New York City's top-of-the-table clash against Atlanta United on Saturday.

He has steadily built up his coaching credentials in New York after leaving his position as Manchester City's under-23 boss back in 2016.
