Atletico 2-1 Real (2-4 agg.) It's Real v Juve for UCL finalShare:
Real Madrid have progressed to the final of the Champions League final after going past Atletico Madrid in the semifinal.
Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night but won 4-2 on aggregate to progress to the final of the Champions League.
Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann scored to give Atletico a two-goal lead and close to overturning the first leg deficit, but Isco scored just before the half time break after some good work by Karim Benzema as Real reach the final once again.
After being struck with that 3-0 first leg defeat, Atletico knew what they needed to do to get back on track and that was exactly what they did, as they came out all guns blazing, hoping to overturn the deficit from the first leg.
And it didn’t take too long before the first goal was scored, as in the 12th minute, Saul Niguez finds some space inside the box and scores with a terrific header inside the right post, giving the goalkeeper no chance. What a way to start the match!
And just three minutes late, Real were in trouble again as referee Cuneyt Cakir sees the trip by Raphael Varane (Real Madrid) and doesn't hesitate to blow his whistle. It's a penalty! Great chance to score for Atletico. Griezmann sends Keylor Navas the wrong way and fires the penalty into the middle of the goal, and the scoreline is 2-0.
But after that, the game appeared to go to sleep, as there were no chances created until just before the break, when Toni Kroos was in a good shooting position inside the six-yard box and produced a first-time shot towards the bottom left corner, but the goalkeeper made an astonishing save to thwart him but Isco fires the rebound inside the left post after the ball breaks to him in the box.
That would be the last piece of action of the half as both sides went into the break.
It was a slow start compared to the first half, as there was no real drive from either side to take the initiative, as Real looked comfortable just keeping their rivals at bay, while Atletico were hardly making any headway in terms of carving out spaces in the Real defence.
But the game would appear to return to life after 66 minutes, when Toni Kroos was in a good shooting position inside the six-yard box and produced a first-time shot towards the bottom left corner, but the goalkeeper made an astonishing save to thwart him.
And then moments later, Yannick Carrasco zig-zags his way into the box and fails to direct a shot inside the right post as the goalkeeper pulls off a miraculous stop.
Atletico had given their best, but it certainly wasn’t good enough as Real progressed to the final of the Champions League once again, where they will face Juventus.
