Barcelona are without  Samuel Umtitl and Thomas Vermaelen this campaign has left the La Liga champions short of options at centre-half, with Gerard Pique and summer signing from Sevilla Clement Lenglet the only real choices for Ernesto Valverde of late.

According to reporting that the Catalan outfit has identified Ivanovic as the deal center-back to cover for the injured duo due to his experience and they are now considering a move for the retired Serbia star in the winter transfer window.

Barcelona see ex-Premier League defender as a short-term option, with the Blaugrana very much interested in signing Ajax skipper Matthijs De Ligt in the summer with Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus also interested in the Dutchman.

Ivanovic has already made 22 appearances for his Russian outfit this term but his trophy-laden career has seen him win three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League, as well as a Russian Cup plus earned over 100 caps for Serbia before retiring from international duty following the 2018 World Cup.
