Barcelona forward Messi makes history again in Alaves win

Lionel Messi's goal against Deportivo Alaves in their league opener for the 2018/19 season has gone down in the history as the Barcelona 6,00th goal.

Barcelona put a good second-half performance to grab the three points after the first half ended 0-0 at the Camp Nou. Messi sublime free-kick went under the wall and Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde was delighted with the display of the Argentine forward.

"He already scored a goal like that against Girona," he said.

Messi scored a brace, Philippe Coutinho scored the second goal for Barcelona.

The Argentine was also the scorer of Barcelona's 5,00th goal in 2009.

Marcos Aurelio in 1950, was the scorer of the 1000th, the 2,000th was the work of Zaballa (1964), goal number 3,000 had Quini's name on it (1982), 4,000 was scored by Amor in 1996 with Messi grabbing the 5,000th in 2009.

Barcelona will take a trip to Estadio José Zorrilla to face Real Valladolid in their second game of the season on Saturday.
