Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has hit back at Spain and Sergio Busquets’ comments after the 3-2 victory over La Roja in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday in Zagreb.

Busquets claimed that Spain remains the best in the group despite their recent slip up in their last two games that ended in defeat.

Busquets' Barcelona teammate Rakitic reacted to his comments and he said that “We deserved it, it’s a huge result for us.”

“The fans watched a great match,” said the Barcelona midfielder after the game.

“We kept going until the end to wait for that one mistake. It eventually came and to beat Spain is remarkable. It gives a lot of strength.

“Spain always carry the weight of a game because they almost play like a team who train together on a daily basis.

“We waited for our moment. We had chances to make 3-1 and it wasn’t to be, but we deserved the win.

“We enjoyed ourselves a lot and it’s nice to see the fans here in the stadium. Beating Spain is a huge result for us. Now we’ll go to Wembley and see if we can finish first.”

Croatia will need to defeat England to book a place in the next round of the competition as a draw will see Spain qualify for the next round and interestingly a win for the Three Lions will also see England top the group.
