Barcelona star Messi misses out on FIFA Award nominees

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been omitted in this year’s FIFA Awards for the first time in 11 years, Cristiano Ronaldo will go toe to toe with his former teammate Luka Modric and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah for the men’s world player of the year award.

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the award for the past decade and the omission of the Argentine forward will make it the first time since 11 years.

Both Messi and Ronaldo have won the award on five occasions each, but Ronaldo will seek to win his six come September 24th after helping Real Madrid to win the Champions League for the third time in a row and finishing the competition as the highest goal scorer.
