Basel 0-4 Man City: Gundogan brace lifts the Cityzens

Manchester City attacker Ilkay Gundogan scored a brace for the Etihad outfit against Basel as the visitors defeated the Switzerland Champions 4-0 in the second round of the Champions League at St Jakob Stadium.

Manchester City pressed started the game with a more pressing game forcing Basel to defend deep in their own half.

City broke the deadlock in the 14th minute after Kelvin De Bruyne fine assist connected with Ilkay Gundogan to give the Etihad outfit the lead.

City set up a fast counter-attack and this time it was Raheem Sterling that led the attack after the England international set-up Bernardo Silva to give Pep Guardiola’s men the second goal.

In the 23rd minute, Manchester City took a comfortable lead via Sergio Aguero after the Argentine forward fired a shot into the Basel net as City looked comfortable passing the ball around.

Manchester City retained much of the ball possession in the first half and gave the ball away few times as they made the host to do the chase.

 The visitors had a comfortable first half against the host as they take a 3-0 advantage in the second half.

 City started the second half with the way the ended the first 45 minutes as they retained their high pressing game,  and in the 53rd third minute, Gundogan curled in a beautiful shot to make it four goals for Manchester City as they extended their lead their lead through the German international.

The host almost got the goal in the 56th minute but the move was not properly executed, Guardiola made his first substitute as he replaced Sterling with Leroy Sane in the 57th minute., with the introduction of Sane City became for dangerous on the flank.

Kelvin de Bruyne was replaced by David Silva in the 63rd minute,  the host almost reduced the tally by a goal in the 67th minute by Dimitri Oberlin header went inches away from the target.

The game ended in favour of Manchester City as the Premier League leaders defeated the host 4-0 at the St Jakob Stadium.
