Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and his Barcelona counterpart Ernesto Ernesto Valverde can probably stop their efforts at trying to lure Joshua Kimmich away from Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga Champions have opened contract talks with the 22-year old star, according to BILD.

Kimmich is tied to the Bavarians until 2020. But the club bosses want to tie him to a longer term, striving for a contract until 2023. His basic salary (previously estimated at three million euros) is to be raised with immediate effect.

The player's representative Uli Ferber in an interview with BILD Sports confirmed that negotiations have already begun with Bayern for new terms for his client.

"In the summer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge came to us for the first time as to whether we could imagine expanding the cooperation. We got together for the first time in autumn and want to hold another round of talks by the end of the year. " said Ferber

Having joined Bayern from Stuttgart in 2015, the 22-year-old was given his chance at the Allianz Arena by current City boss Pep Guardiola.

The German international has since emerged as one of the best young defenders in Europe, with the possibility of a big-money switch to the Premier League in the offing.

Guardiola remains a big fan of the player and it has been claimed that he is exploring the possibility on bringing him to England in the near future.
