Bendel Insurance has returned to Nigeria Premier Football League for the first time since the last ten years after beating Shooting Stars 2-1 at the Uniben Sports Complex on Monday afternoon.

The Benin Arsenal were relegated at the end of the 2007–08 season after finishing in last place, the first relegation from the top level in team history.

Bendel Insurance came from behind to defeat visiting 3SC of Ibadan after Isiaka Mutiu has put the away team ahead in the third minutes of the encounter on Sunday but the match was abandoned due to poor visibility caused by rainfall.

Godwin Obaseki boys level up in the 56th minutes of the clash courtesy of Kabiru Abdullahi when both Nigeria National League sides returned to the match on Monday before veteran star Charles Omokaro seal the winner for the home team from the spot kick in added time, after a Shooting Stars defender was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box area.

The Benin Arsenal now sit on top of Group B1 of the NNL with 29 points with one game in hand, against Spartans FC of Agege while Oluyole Warriors who are the nearest challengers, are with 28 points and have played their last group match which was against Insurance.
