Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema has sent a message to his critics after the attacker put in a scintillating performance against Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday to hit 200th goal for Real Madrid.

Benzema scored the opening goal of the match after an individual display after he dazzled the home team defence to slot the ball into the net and before the end of the first half he grabbed the second.

The former Lyon attacker is the fourth player on the Champions League all-time highest goal scorer with 59 goals, ahead of him is Raul Gonzalez, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid want another Chelsea star in January, not Hazard

The Frenchman was keen for people to see his wider contribution to each game.

"When I go out on the field I don't just want to score goals," he said after the match.

"I want to give assists, play, score goals... what a striker does.

"It's always the same but I play football to make history and sometimes people don't understand what I do on the pitch.

"But it doesn't bother me anymore because I'm 30 years old, I have children and I don't think about these things.”

Benzema has scored three goals in the Champions League this season and four goals in the La Liga.
