A big worry for Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr ahead of the 2019 AFCON as Nigerian goal poacher Odion Ighalo stretched off the pitch in Shanghai Shenhua’s 1-1 away draw with John Obi Mikel former club Tianjin Teda in the Chinese Super League encounter on Friday.

The 29-year-old striker topped the AFCON qualification series with 7 goals and will no doubt be a major threat for many countries in Egypt following his impressive start to life with Shanghai.

Ighalo picked up the injury in the 12th minute of the encounter played at Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium and was replaced by Wu Yizhen with his side already 1-0 down already before Giovanni Moreno canceling out Jonathan in the tie.

The former Serie A, La Liga and Premier League star has scored seven goals in nine league games for Shanghai Shenhua this season and with African Cup of Nations in Egypt just less than 40 days.

Ighalo is currently the third highest goal scorer in the CSL behind Graziano Pelle and Eran Zahavi who have scored eight goals each.

The Super Eagles are expected to begin preparation for Egypt 2019 on June 2nd in Asaba, Delta State as Rohr side will face Zimbabwe in a friendly match on June 8 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium before their final build-up game is against Senegal seven days later

Nigeria have been drawn in Group D and the three-time African champions will come up against Guinea, Madagascar, and Burundi in the competition next month.
