Manchester United and Real Madrid’s US pre-season training base of UCLA has been evacuated due to a bomb scare, according to reports.
Students were told to leave the university, which has been a training base for both Manchester United and Real Madrid during their pre-season tour of the US, at around 10pm local time, which is 6am UK.RELATED: Man United and Real Madrid in bitter bust-up in Los AngelesThe LA Times
reports that people were being led out of their dorms and toward the Drake Stadium. While residents were being advised to stay indoors.
UCLA spokesman Brian Haas reassured everyone it was just “precautionary”, but 30 minutes after the evacuation, a second noticed alerted that the “situation is still active”.
United and Real Madrid had been at UCLA yesterday as both start their US tours in Los Angeles — and have actually been at loggerheads over the hotel and training facilities at the university.
However, they were not present at the time of the evacuation.
The Red Devils will kick off their pre-season with a match against local side LA Galaxy in two days’ time, before facing Real Salt Lake City. Jose Mourinho‘s men will then face a not-so-local derby against Manchester City, before facing Real Madrid on July 23.
And that clash in Santa Clara will kick off Los Blancos’ pre-season. The two European giants will meet again in the Uefa European Super Cup on August 8.
