Gianluigi Buffon drew level with Francesco Totti in terms of Serie A appearances this weekend, taking his total to 612 matches.

The Italian goalkeeper started in goal for Juventus in their 1-1 draw with Udinese while Totti was an unused substitute in Roma’s 2-1 defeat to Napoli. The veteran pair is joint third on the list and is closing on former Inter captain, Javier Zanetti, who made 615 outings for Inter. Further ahead in the first place is former AC Milan captain, Paolo Maldini, who made 647 Serie A matches for Milan where he won seven Serie A titles.

While Totti has already celebrated his 40th birthday back in September 2016, Buffon only reached 39 this January and looks set to surpass the Roma captain in the standings.

Buffon is hoping to add an eight Serie A title to his cabinet as his team top the league with eight points ahead of Roma in the second position.
