Bundesliga side Mainz 05 holds first camp in Africa

Africa is a new frontier for many European clubs that are looking to find exciting fresh football talents. Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05 took the big leap with a one week camp in Lagos this April, its first foray onto the continent. Organized in partnership with Vandyke Football Club, the camp had more than a hundred players who trained with the Mainz 05 duo of coaches, Marco Thurer and Marcus Becker in Lekki."We enjoyed great hospitality in Lagos and we were able to further expand the very good reputation of the Bundesliga and in particular FSV Mainz 05," Becker told the club’s website.
"We are very happy about the great success and great start of our football school in Nigeria, and we have been able to win many new fans with passion and dedication, as well as many talents." “We want to represent the club and the Bundesliga in a sustainable manner and having our first Project in Africa came with great experiences, " said Christof Babatz, head of the Mainz football school.Emeka Enyadike, Vandyke FC founder, said that he was very happy that the very first foray of Mainz into Africa was successful as they plan ahead for the future.
