Sunshine Stars coach Duke Udi believes Akwa United combative midfielder, Afis Aremu can play a key role for the Home Eagles in this weekend’s African Championship qualifier against Benin Republic in Cotonou.
The 18-year-old midfielder has earned a place in coach Salisu Yusuf's squad for the qualifiers, alongside the likes of Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ibrahim Hassan and Stephen Odey due to his impressive display for the Promise Keepers this season.
Aremu is yet to make his debut for the Home Eagles, but Udi has backed him to make a big impact for the team.
"Aremu is a fantastic player," he told reporters after the game on Sunday.
"He's was very frustrating to play against because he has got a tremendous amount of ability and his passing range is top quality.
"I'm not 100% sure what role he will have during the CHAN qualifiers but I'm sure it will be a very important one whether he'll be starting or coming off the bench.
"He was a player of Sunshine Stars last season and against us he showed his quality. With the quality, Akwa United have they are still in the race for the title.
"He's grown not only as a player but as a person in the last 12 months. You can see the confidence of playing week in, week out has helped his game develop."
