Premier League defending Champion Chelsea may have been handed a significant boost in their transfer pursuit of a £35m defender with Serie A champion Juventus reportedly cooling their interest for the Roma star.
Kostas Manolas had been linked several times with the Blues this summer but nothing worthwhile came out of it. Juventus were front-runners to secure the Greece international but have apparently cooled their interest.
Roma had agreed on a £30m deal with Zenith last month for Manolas. However, he did not turn up for his medical as he wanted his wages to be paid in Euros rather than Rubles.
The deal collapsed. Chelsea were monitoring the situation after the deal broke and wanted to sign the defender last month, but nothing came out of it.
John Terry, Nathan Ake, Kurt Zouma and Nathaniel Chalobah have all left Stamford Bridge in this transfer window, leaving Chelsea somewhat short of Conte’s desired squad depth in defense
Chelsea had been linked with vying for the likes of Bonucci and Van Dijk this summer. But with Bonucci joining Milan and Van Dijk seems more close to Liverpool, Chelsea have turned their attention to the Roma defender.
According to Tuttosport, Manolas is too expensive for the Italian champions at £35million, though that doesn’t look like too much to put off Chelsea from pursuing him again.
The 26-year old has been with the Italian club since 2014 and has made over 100 appearances, with Juventus instead seemingly targeting Ezequiel Garay as their priority to replace Bonucci, who ended up leaving for AC Milan
