Chelsea set to spend £50 million on Matic replacement

Chelsea is reportedly set to step up their bid for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley,

according to reports in England the Premier League Champions has set their sight on the midfielder after selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United this summer.

It is understood that the Blues are trying to add more homegrown players to the squad and Barkley has been identified as a potential signing.

Barkley has been on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur for a long time, but they now face competition from Chelsea to sign the midfielder.

Everton is demanding a sum of £50 million for one of their most priced assets despite having just a year left on his contract.

Barkley scored 12 goals and had 11 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

A sudden dip in form affected his game last season and led to a serious strain in relationship with Everton Manager Ronald Koeman as the manager criticized him for inability to improve technically.

But when on song, though, Barkley can prove to be a valuable addition to any squad, which is something that would have caught Antonio Conte’s eyes.

With the departure of Matic, the Chelsea boss has just N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko as central midfield options to choose from currently.

Conte is also eyeing attacking reinforcements ahead of the forthcoming season, which is perhaps where the interest in Barkley stems from.

However, the Blues will have to be wary of the fact that the Spurs are eyeing a deal as well so they will need to make a move soon.

Barkley will be a good addition to whichever team he joins this summer.
