The story of how impressed Chelsea were following the arrival of N’Golo Kante has been revealed in full detail as the Blues were so impressed with the midfielder that they sent Leicester City a bunch of flowers to say 'thank you'.

Chelsea technical director Michael Emanalo even claimed the Blues players ‘hugged’ the tireless midfielder after his first session as they knew they had a star on their hands.

The France midfielder was a key member of the Leicester side that won the Premier League before he signed for Chelsea in the summer for £30million.

Kante immediately hit the ground running, adding stability to Chelsea's midfield, and won a consecutive title in his debut season in London.

"After Kante's first training session with us the players hugged him and we sent Leicester flowers," Emanalo added.

Kante’s impressive performances also saw him win the PFA Player of the Year award as well as the Football Writers' Player of the Year award.

Reacting to winning the award, Kante said: “It's special because I couldn't even say I'm the best player but it's very special and a great honour.

"It's not only me. I owe so much to my teammates because we have achieved so much together this season and we still have the FA Cup.

"It is very special, a few years ago I was playing in the French lower divisions.

"Five years ago I wasn't even professional so to receive this kind of award means I am the kind of player I cannot even imagine being here."
