Chelsea is teasing Real Madrid as the play the long game with the European Champion over a summer bid of £28m for Real Madrid defender Danilo.
The Premier League Champions launched a £28million bid for the Brazilian defender earlier this week but no concrete follow-up has been made by the London-based club.
Although Blues manager Antonio Conte is keen to land the full-back before the start of the season in order to blend him with the rest of the squad.Related: €180m rated star scared of joining Real Madrid
But club owner Roman Abramovich is not prepared to sanction an increased bid to push through a move.
That is according to Spanish outlet Marca, who claim
Chelsea and Real Madrid are at a stand-off over Danilo’s transfer fee.
Los Blancos want a transfer fee of £30.8m (€35m) for the Brazil international - a fee Russian billionaire Abramovich is unwilling to meet.
Instead, the owner believes Real Madrid will break from the stand-off first and accept Chelsea’s initial bid for the former Porto player.
Danilo is realistic about his chances of starting in the Real Madrid XI this season, with manager Zinedine Zidane eyeing replacements.
According to Marca
, Zidane has other options if Danilo leaves the capital club this summer, Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier is supposedly on Zidane’s wish list, while academy product Achraf Hakimi will be assessed on Real’s pre-season tour.
Danilo is keen for regular starts as he eyes a place in the Brazil side for next summer’s World Cup.
If both clubs cannot reach an agreement for the defender Zidane will welcome Danilo back into the squad with open hands.
