News By: Ikponmwosa Umweni | 30/10/2019

Chelsea have the opportunity to avenge their opening-day defeat to Manchester United when the two sides renew hostilities in the last-16 of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

Red Devils thrashed the Blues 4-0 on the opening day of the Premier League season but fortunes of both sides have varied greatly since then as Frank Lampard men are currently fourth in the table with 20 points, and also top their Champions League group off the back of a seven-game winning run.

Manchester United have won one of their last five league matches and only secured a win from their last Carabao Cup game on penalties against League One side Rochdale.

Team News

‚ÄčN’Golo Kanté is out indefinitely and Antonio Rudiger, who is recovering from a groin injury still out plus Andreas Christensen too but Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are also on the road to recovery as they may not be ready in time to feature in this match

Solskjaer revealed after Sunday's win over Norwich that Paul Pogba is not expected back until December as he continues to struggle with an ankle injury.

The Frenchman is joined on the sidelines by Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Diogo Dalot, while Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw are nearing their returns but may not be ready to start this match

Head to Head

Manchester United have history on their side with 79 wins to Chelsea's 54, along with 51 draws.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last four outings against the Blues, winning twice and drawing twice but the last meeting between both sides ended 4-0 to the visiting team in the League in August, while their last trip to Stamford Bridge saw them leave with a 2-0 FA Cup victory.

Recent Form

The Blues are currently in excellent form after winning their last seven encounters in all competition and are hoping to use this to their advantage on Wednesday night.

However, the Red Devils have only secured one win in their past five league games, with their most recent three points coming against Norwich on Sunday in a 3-1 victory, their previous league game saw an impressive 1-1 draw against current leaders Liverpool which shouldn’t be underestimated.

Chelsea predicted lineup (4-3-3): Caballero; James, Zouma, Guehi, Emerson; Kovacic, Jorginho, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Batshuayi, Pedro

Man Utd predicted lineup (3-4-2-1): Romero; Jones, Maguire, Rojo; Wan-Bissaka, Fred, McTominay, Williams; Lingard, Mata; Rashford
