Chelsea wants serie A defender

Chelsea wants Serie A defender the Blues are currently in the hunt for Roma’s center back Kostas Manolas for £30million, reports according to The Sun.

Antonio Conte is reportedly a big fan of the Greek’s playing style and is preparing a bid for him ahead of the summer.

The Chelsea coach sent scouts to Italy to check Manolas in action as AS Roma play AC Milan in a Serie A match. Once the scouts are happy with his performance, Chelsea is likely to sign the defender.

This is not the first time the defender was linked with Chelsea he was rumoured to be on his way to the Stamford Bridge last summer.

Things are different now as Chelsea is vying in Champions League next season and would need active backups and Manolas can prove to be the man Chelsea needed at the defence considering the departure of John Terry and Kourt Zuma who is reportedly going on loan

Manolas has won 28 caps so far Greece and has been one of the key players when it comes to Roma’s solid defence, having made 41 appearances across all competitions. He has played an integral role when it comes to Roma’s attempt at a top-two finish in the Seria-A table.

However, Manolas still has two years left to complete his contract, and Conte will have to make sure not to lose out on a prospect like the 25-year-old.

Chelsea will be hoping for good news once the scouts return back to Stamford Bridge. They will have to act fast though since a slew of Premier League clubs have been eyeing him, and so have Inter Milan.
