Arsenal striker of Nigerian descent Chuba Akpom is now focused on what the future holds for him after 'a season of ups and downs' in the just concluded 2017/18 campaign.

Akpom who has been with Arsenal since the age of six, made 12 senior appearances and had also gained first-team experience during loan spells with Coventry City, Brentford, Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion joined Sint-Truidense in the Belgian top flight on loan for the rest of the season during the January transfer window.

In 13 league fixtures for Sint-Truiden, the Arsenal man who was once spotted in a Super Eagles jersey last year found the back of the net five times to help his side retain their Belgian Pro League status.

The 22-year old striker in a message on his Twitter account summarised his 2017/18 as thus: "Season 2017/18 Done.

"It’s been a season of ups and downs but I’ve learnt a lot. Enjoyed my loan at Sint-Truiden

"Excited to see what the future holds."

Akpom who is still eligible to represent Nigeria in May 2016 was one of three players including Chelsea's Ola Aina formally approached by the Nigeria Football Federation. Ola Aina is now a full Nigeria international.

On March 28, 2017, Akpom was reportedly close to switching to Nigeria alongside Ola Aina of Chelsea after discussions with Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick.
