Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has explained why he substituted Eden Hazard in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Chelsea and Arsenal settled for a goalless draw at the Stamford Bridge and both teams will need the second leg to settle scores.

The fierce game saw Jack Wilshere injured and was forced out of the game as a result of that and Chelsea fans hope Hazard has not suffered injury as he was withdrawn with seven minutes remaining.

But Conte has wet down such fears and claimed it is a tactical decision.

“No, it was a technical decision,” Conte said.

The Italian tactician also defended his misfiring attackers who have failed to utilize their chances in their past games.

“You must be worried if you don’t create and it is difficult not to score,” Conte added.

“Every game we create chances, this season we might be a bit unlucky, but haven’t taken the chances.

“The speech is not for the strikers, Christensen had two fantastic chances to score.

“It is not just the strikers, you have to take chances.

“The semi-final it is important to take your chances.”
