Copa Dey Rey: Real Madrid see red in Fuenlabrada win - FCNaija

Real Madrid started the Copa Del Rey with an away match to Fuenlabrada at the Fernando Torres Stadium with a 2-0 win, Marcos Asensio and Lucas Vasquez scored from the penalty spot to give Los Blancos the victory as Jesus Vallejo was sent off towards the end of the match.

Fuenlabrada started the game with a huge confidence as they threatened Real Madrid with few attempts on goal in the opening minutes.

Real Madrid rested huge numbers of the senior squad players with Fernando Nacho captaining the Los Blancos for the first Copa Del Rey match of the season.

Real Madrid finds it difficult to break the deadlock as the Fuenlabrada players looked ready to match whatever is being thrown at them.

Marcos Llorente of Real Madrid made an attempt after a cool control of the ball in the box but it went off the target.

Fuenlabrada goalkeeper Codina pulled a spectacular save to ensure the scoreline remained the same following his fine save from Marcos Llorente's effort in the closing minute of the first half.

Real Madrid forward Borja Mayoral also tested Codina but his effort was saved by the Fuenlabrada’s goalkeeper who remained active almost the entire first half.

The La Liga champions were unable to break the deadlock in the first half thanks to the effort of Codina who made some fine save to keep the game at par at the end of the first 45 minutes.

The second half began with Real Madrid making all effort to break the deadlock but the Fuenlabrada defence ensured the ball is not coming near their goal area.

Lucas Vazquez decides to go all alone but his effort was unsuccessful.

Marco Asensio finally broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute from the spot after the referee Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva award a penalty for a harsh challenge from Fuenlabrada’s player Fran Garcia on Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi.

Asensio forced Codina into another save in a bid to get the second goal but the goalkeeper was up to the Challenge and a quick attack again from Real Madrid through Borja Mayoral but his shot was saved.

Borja Mayoral gets a powerful header in the last 19 minutes but his header was cleared away.

A chance for Real Madrid to double the lead from Lucas Vasquez went wide went narrowly the post.

Another penalty was award to Real Madrid and Vazquez made no mistake to get it into the net after he took a stuttered run-up before calmly rolling the ball into the far corner from 12 yards.Jesus Vallejo was shown a red card towards the end of the game.
