Court orders arrest of former Super Eagles playmaker Okocha

A court in Lagos orders the arrest of former Super Eagles playmaker Austin Jay Jay Okocha over tax evasion charges.

The 45-year-old Enugu-born was charged by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice in a three-count charge bordering on failure to furnish a return of income.

According to Premium Times claiming that Okocha has deliberately failed to appear before the court to answer allegations on why he failed to pay his income taxes and nonpayment of tax. 

Judge Adedayo Akintoye issued the warrant for the arrest of 1994 Afcon winner on January 29, and thereafter adjourned until February 19. 

But the prosecution has not effected the arrest on the stipulated February 19, and Akintoye adjourned again until April 15, before ordering that the warrant be executed but the charges were filed through a prosecutor, Jide Martins, in June 2017 and the suit began four months later. 

Okocha who has 73 caps for Nigeria between1993–2006 and he scored 14 goals in the process.
