Super Eagles duo Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho say they honoured and pleased to have emerged winners of their respective categories in Thursday's 2016 CAF awards ceremony.Iwobi and Iheanacho scooped the CAF Youth Player of the Year award and the 2016 Most Promising Young Talent award
respectively during a ceremony held in their native homeland Nigeria.
Both players took to their different social media accounts and reacted thus:
Iheanacho claimed the Most Promising Talent gong after seeing off competitions from DR Congo and TP Mazembe's Elia Meschak and Naby Keita of Guinea who stars for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.
Iwobi who had a superb 2016 season where he helped Arsenal to a second place finish in the league last season while also helping Nigeria to two victories in their opening two fixtures of the 2018 World Cup qualifying series edged Ghana's Eric Ayiah who plays for Charity FC and Sandra Owusu-Ansah of Ghana to emerge winner of the Youth Player of the Year category.
NFF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick received the awards on behalf of the Arsenal and Manchester City stars who were absent at the ceremony due to club engagements.
