Arsenal consider appealing Elneny red card

The FA have overturned Mohamed Elneny's red card during Arsenal's 3-2 win against Southampton following an appeal from the North London club.

Elneny was sent off by referee Andre Marriner for raising his hands in a confrontation with Saints defender Cedric in stoppage time at the Emirates Stadium, shortly after Saints player Jack Stephens was shown a second yellow for a malicious foul on Jack Wilshere.

A statement by the FA read: "Mohamed Elneny will be available for Arsenal's next three games after an Independent Regulatory Commission accepted that he was wrongly dismissed for violent conduct against Southampton on Sunday, April 8, 2018."

In his post-match press conference on Sunday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said he was surprised by the decision to send off Elneny and suggested the club would appeal the decision.
