Luis Enrique is set for a sensational return to the Spanish national team as the head coach after he previously stepped down from the post due to personal reasons.

Enrique left the post due to illness that later caused the death of his daughter Xana, aged nine, from bone cancer in August. He quit the position upon the death of his daughter and now he is set for a return to the national team.

Robert Moreno has been spectacular since he took over the post, he ensured Spain qualified for the Euro 2020 with a 5-0 thrashing of Romania on Monday evening but he failed to appear for his post-match conference or for interviews.

Sources said it was his personal choice not to show up.

Moreno has been a long-time assistant to Enrique but after the 5-0 victory against Romania, he was reduced to tears, with El Mundo saying he bid farewell to the players after the game in tears.

Moreno won four games and drew two when he was the manager of Spain but won all three games when he was the interim manager.

Spain finished top of Group F, taking 26 points from 10 games.
