FA Cup 5th-round: Chelsea host Man Utd & City battle Newport

FA Cup By: Ikponmwosa Umweni | 15/02/2019

The FA Cup fifth round is due to take place this weekend, with a couple of big ties as Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Monday night, while City takes on English League Two side Newport County at Rodney Parade.

However, Premier League side Watford travel to Championship QPR on Friday night and Frank Lampard’s Derby looking to make their first quarter-final for 20 years against Brighton.

AFC Wimbledon will look to repeat their giant-killing heroics as they take on Millwall while Sundays fixtures start with Bristol taking on Wolves before Crystal Palace travels lower down the football pyramid to take on Doncaster, Swansea host Brentford to end the weekend

Fcniaja takes a look at the fixtures and comes up with predictions:

Chelsea vs. Manchester United

Last year’s FA Cup finalists Chelsea and Manchester United will battle it out in the fifth round this term and we fancy the Blues to come out on top again with Eden Hazard’s penalty separated these sides at Wembley.

Manchester United will look to continue their FA Cup form in London on Monday night after brushed aside Arsenal at the Emirates to secure their place in this round and will be hoping for a similar display at Stamford Bridge against Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory at Malmo in the Europa League on Thursday, following their 6-0 humiliation against Manchester City in the Premier League, while Red Devils suffered their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the hands of PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Player to Watch: Paul Pogba has eight goals and five assists since Norwegian took over as manager and Hazard has found back of the net 12 times and provided 10 assists in the Premier League.

Chelsea Predicted lineup: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Higuain, Hazard

Man Utd Predicted lineup: Romero; Young, Lindelof, Jones, Shaw; Matic, Herrera, Pogba; Lukaku, Mata, Rashford

Prediction: Blues 2-1 Red Devils

Newport County vs Manchester City

Rodney Parade is readying itself for the arrival of Premier League champions Manchester City for this FA Cup fifth round David vs Goliath affair on Saturday.

Player to Watch: Sergio Aguero has scored two hat-tricks in his last three games for Manchester City and has seven in his last 10 domestic cup matches too.

Newport County Predicted Lineups: Day; Poole, O'Brien, Demetriou, Willmott, Bennett, Bakinson, Labadie, Butler, Amond, Matt.

Manchester City Predicted Lineups: Ederson; Danilo, Stones, Otamendi, Delph; Gundogan, Foden,  D. Silva; Mahrez, Jesus, Sane.

Prediction: Newport County 1-4 Manchester City

QPR vs. Watford

Queens Park Rangers are into the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in 22 years and their reward is a home tie against Premier League side Watford.

The Hornets have been in fine form, but Javi Gracia does not consider this competition as a priority for his side and, so, Steve McClaren's men will fancy their chances of pulling off a shock at Loftus Road on Friday night.

Player to Watch: José Holebas has created 32 chances this season. Only Lucas Digne (46) and Kieran Trippier (36) have more.

Prediction: QPR 1-2 Watford

Brighton vs. Derby

Derby County will be hoping to pull off an FA Cup upset when they travel to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton on Saturday.

Frank Lampard's men have developed a reputation for giant-killers after overcoming Southampton in the last round, as well as beating Manchester United on penalties in this season's Carabao Cup.

Brighton are in a tailspin and needed a replay and extra time to see off West Brom in the last round.

Player to Watch: Glenn Murray is Brighton leading scorer in this season Premier League with 10 goals while Derby midfielder Harry Wilson has scored seven of his 10 goals from outside the box; the most in the Championship.

Prediction: Brighton 2-0 Derby

AFC Wimbledon vs. Millwall

Millwall’s win over Everton is their only victory in the last six games, and whilst they still have the superior quality to an up-and-down AFC Wimbledon, you wouldn’t want to rule out the lower league side after their heroics against West Ham and their morale-boosting win over Walsall at the weekend. Expect them to take advantage of the lack of a replay to sneak a win.

Player to Watch: Lee Gregory has more goals than anyone else for Millwall (seven) this season and opened the scoring in the 3-2 win over Everton in the last round.

Prediction: Wimbledon 1-1 Millwall

Bristol vs. Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers face a tricky FA Cup fifth-round tie on Sunday when they travel to Ashton Gate to take on an in-form Bristol City.

The Robins have won each of their last nine consecutive matches to extend their unbeaten streak to 15 games, and have already beaten Premier League Huddersfield in this season's competition

Player to Watch: Matt Doherty has scored three goals in the last two FA Cup outings for Wolves.

Prediction: Bristol 1-2 Wolves

Doncaster vs. Crystal Palace

Doncaster have lost just thrice in their last 20 games and will be confident that they can knock Crystal Palace out, but Roy Hodgson will have his side set-up too solidly to allow that.

Players to Watch: Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been Palace’s most consistent player this season; no one has won more tackles than he has (96) in the Premier League so far this season.

Prediction: Doncaster 1-3 Palace

Swansea vs. Brentford

Brentford’s attacking approach saw them smash Blackburn in the last round and one can see them shocking Swansea here to make the quarter-finals.

The Welsh side are four points ahead in the Championship, but the cup should be a great leveller.

Player to Watch: Oliver McBurnie has scored 16 times so far this season, which is 11 more than his side’s second-top scorer.
