Cesc Fabregas revealed why he quit Chelsea for Monaco after ending his four-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge and says he is excited about the club’s project.

The 31-year-old Spanish midfielder struggle for game time under the new the Blues coach Maurizio Sarri due to the arrival of Jorginho from Serie A outfit Napoli last summer.

Fabregas will link up with former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry at Monaco, who is his new manager, and his first task will be helping the side move clear of relegation.

Fabregas told Monaco’s official website. "It is a great pleasure to join AS Monaco, a new project for me.

"The group is of quality with young players and a young coach.

"I’m here to help the team, I’m looking forward to starting, we have a great match to play in Marseille on Sunday. I am very excited.’

Fabregas made 198 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 22 goals and winning four major trophies, including two Premier League titles.
