Croatia, Nigeria’s first group opponent at next year’s World Cup
also been fined by world football governing body, FIFA.
The Croatia Football Federation (HNS) have
been fined for the inappropriate behaviour of their fans during their World Cup qualifier against Greece on November 9, 2017.
The penalty comes as the HNS were
found to have been in breach of Articles 58, 65 and 67 of FIFA's security rules.
The Croatian Federation were
fined 30,000 Swiss francs for the incident that occurred at Stadion Maksimir (Zagreb), but the outcome of the game will remain valid.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were fined a total of CHF 6,000 for fielding Shehu Abdullahi in the World Cup qualifier against Algeria, despite not being eligible, after receiving two previous bookings. The game was forfeited to Algeria, but it did not affect Nigeria’s qualification to the World Cup, as the ticket had been booked before the final round of matches.
