Football fans want Marcos Alonso banned for his tackle on Shane Long during Chelsea's comeback win at Southampton on Saturday.

An Olivier Giroud-inspired comeback helped Chelsea to three points at St Mary's after the Saints gave them a major scare, having gone two goals up before the hour mark.

Things could have got even worse for Chelsea had Marcos Alonso been disciplined by Mike Dean for an awful challenge on Long. The Spanish international was seen stepping over Cesc Fabregas before bringing his studs down on the Irishman's calf, which left him unsurprisingly needing treatment.

Dean who was the official in charge of the game may not have seen the needlessly reckless tackle and Alonso was a lucky boy to find himself still on the pitch.

Chelsea legend Dennis Wise on the tackle said: "He'll come out and say he didn't see that and if he didn't see it he, one, shouldn't be refereeing and two, needs glasses"

Football fans on Twitter believe the Stamford Bridge full-back must now receive a retrospective ban for the challenge.
