VAR, Video Assistant Referee was once again introduced in England during the FA Cup showdown over the weekend which prompted football legends and fans to react to the newest technology in the beautiful game.

It is an association football assistant referee that reviews decisions made by the head referee with the use of video footage and a headset for communication. VARs are not currently part of the Laws of the Game, but their use is currently being trialled by the International Football Association Board in a number of competitions.

There are four types of calls that can be reviewed with the use of VAR, they include: (1) Goals and whether there was a violation during the buildup (2) Penalty decisions (3) Red card decisions (second yellow cards are not reviewable (4) Mistaken identity in awarding a red or yellow card.

Considering the aforementioned, the VAR was introduced to help the main referees in decision-making during football games and was used over the weekend at FA Cup matches.
