Former Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan has been handed 16-match suspension after he pushed a linesman.

The 31-year-old Istanbul Basaksehir playmaker was sent off during last week 1-1 draw with Sivasspor in the Turkish Super Lig as the Turkey international reacted angrily to being sent off and took out his frustration by pushing and abusing one of the assistants.

The Turkish Professional Football Discipline Board announced the decision to ban Turan for 16 games on Thursday, meaning he will now miss nearly half of next season.

On loan star has also been fined £6,800 - only linked up with Istanbul during the January transfer window and has contributed two goals in 11 league appearances.

Turan's ban means that he will miss Basaksehir's last two games of the 2017-18 season, with the club trailing leaders Galatasaray by two points.
