Former Man City star pitches tent with Eagles' Leon Balogun - FCNaija

South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup finalist with Netherlands Nigel de Jong has joined Super Eagles Leon Balogun at Bundesliga strugglers Mainz 05 from Turkish giants Galatasaray.

De Jong, who boasts 66 Bundesliga appearances from his time at Hamburg between 2006 and 2009, has put pen to paper on a contract until 2018 summer at the Opel Arena.

An official confirmation by Mainz reads: "Nigel de Jong has signed a contract with the #Zerofivers until the end of the season. The dutch midfielder joins #Mainz05 from @Galatasaray."

De Jong who was part of the Oranje squad that reached the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, losing 1-0 to Spain after extra time becomes the club's second signing of the transfer window, after out of favour Super Eagles striker Anthony Ujah.

The Dutchman, who joined the Super Lig side after spells with Manchester City, AC Milan and LA Galaxy, had fallen out of favour in Istanbul this season and was not given a squad number.
