Former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard who managed the Cataalans for five years, winning the UEFA Champions League, as well two La Liga titles has heaped praises on his former student Lionel Messi.
Rijkaard along with his son visited the team during their training session on Sunday, a day after he attended Barça’s 2–2 draw versus Celta at Camp Nou and met up with stars such as Messi and Gerard Piqué.
The Dutchman in an interview with Barca's website
, when quizzed on his thoughts on the Argentine who was just a boy during his coaching days at Camp Nou, said: "Messi is God.
"He deserves all the praise he gets, and the same with Iniesta. I congratulated them for everything they’ve done. It fills me with pride and I always follow them from afar. I have wonderful memories of Barça. It was fantastic.
“I’m very happy to have seen the [Celta] game. My son’s dream was to see Barça play in person.
" said Rijkaard
Rijkaard managed current players Andrés Iniesta and Messi, in addition to a panoply of former stars like Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o, Carles Puyol, Xavi, Luis Enrique and Víctor Valdés.
He led Barcelona for five seasons (2003-2008),
and won the 2006/06 UEFA Champions League title, as well as the 2004/05 and 2005/06 La Liga championships, and the 2005/06 and 2006/07 Spanish Super Cups.
