Frankfurt v Arsenal: Team news, predictions & likely lineups

Europa League By: Ikponmwosa Umweni | 19/09/2019

Arsenal will be hoping to get their Europa League campaign off to a winning start when they travel to the Commerzbank-Arena to take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday evening.

The Gunners came up short in last season's Europa final against Chelsea, and that 4-1 defeat - coupled with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League means Unai Emery's men missed out on Champions League football.

Arsenal will be desperate for a return to winning ways after picking up widespread criticism for surrendering a 2-0 lead against Watford on Sunday, while Eintracht Frankfurt has made a mixed start to the season, winning two and losing two of their opening four Bundesliga games, suffering defeat in their most recent encounter against Augsburg.

Team News

Eintracht are without Mijat Gacinovic, who sustained an injury in training last week, while former Swansea City player Jonathan de Guzman misses out due to a muscular problem.

Marco Russ is ruled out after the veteran defender ruptured an Achilles tendon, while Sebastian Rode and Goncalo Paciencia are both doubts.

Arsenal will be without Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos for a trip to Frankfurt as the pair were left at home to rest as the Gunners prepare to start their continental campaign, with Alexandre Lacazette still missing through an ankle injury.

Emery is likely to make some changes as Rob Holding is included in a squad for the first time since December having overcome a knee injury, although Konstantinos Mavropanos and Kieran Tierney (both groin) and Hector Bellerin (knee) are absent.

Head to Head

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Recent Form

Eintracht's form went off a cliff towards the end of last season, costing them a place in the Champions League, and that hangover has continued into this term, losing two of their four Bundesliga games.

Arsenal are without a win in three Premier League games, drawing with Watford and Tottenham having previously lost to Liverpool.

Predicted Lineups Eintracht Frankfurt: Trapp; Abraham, Hasebe, Hinteregger; Costa, Kohr, Rode, Kostic; Kamada; Pacienca, Dost.

Predicted Lineups Arsenal: Martinez; Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Mustafi, Kolasinac; Willock, Torreira, Ceballos; Pepe, Aubameyang, Nelson.

Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 Arsenal
