The summer transfer market has not particularly gone the way of Chelsea but they have been wise enough to tie their young prospects to new long deals.
In this light, the Blues on Friday announced that Lewis Baker has signed a new five-year contract with the club but he will continue his development with Championship side Middlesbrough having moved to the Riverside Stadium on a season-long loan.
In a statement on their official website, it was stated that "Baker made his Chelsea first-team debut in an FA Cup tie at Derby County in 2014. He is also an FA Youth Cup and Under-21 Premier League-winner with our Academy.
"The 22-year-old midfielder has spent the past two seasons on loan at Vitesse Arnhem where he impressed and helped them win the Dutch Cup in April.
"A regular for England Under-21s at this summer’s European Championships, Baker was also part of the Chelsea squad which travelled
to China and Singapore for our recent summer tour and featured in matches against Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
