Odion Ighalo has been heavily linked with a move to China, a move which could cost him his place in the national team.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has warned striker Odion Ighalo he risks losing his place in the team if he chooses to move to China.
Ighalo, 27, has been linked with a move to China this transfer window and after rejecting an offer from a Chinese club last summer, the Nigeria international is now reported to be considering a move to the Far East.Read more: EXCL: Ighalo set to follow Mikel to China
But Nigeria coach, Rohr, has said while he cannot stop the striker from going to China, there are other players who can replace him in the national team if he doe.
“I don’t know if Ighalo is going there or not, I don’t know,” said Rohr.Read also: Ighalo and four other players the Super Eagles coach could drop in 2017
“Whether he chooses to go there is his decision but we have good options for his position as a striker.
“We have the young (Victor) Osimhen who is now eligible to play (in the Bundesliga) since the first of January for Wolfsburg, and I will have a look at him.
“And I will also have a look at a Nigerian-German we just discovered, I think we will have a look at him in March.”
Rohr has never hidden his admiration for Osimhen, who he invited for his first game in charge of the Super Eagles – even though the young striker didn’t get to feature.
Ighalo has failed to hit the heights of last season for Watford, as he has just a solitary strike in the Premier League and two in all competitions.
