Gerrard reveals what Real Madrid request from him years back

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed what Real Madrid demanded from him some 10 years ago in a bid to seal a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid almost got Gerrard signed from Liverpool in 2010, though the midfielder has many top teams craving for his signature with Chelsea also in the fray to sign the Liverpool skipper but the offer from Real Madrid was more tempting and they came knocking.

In Gerrard’s interview with his former teammate Jamie Carragher, in The Greatest Game podcast, the former Liverpool star spoke about what it would have taken to secure a deal with Real Madrid.

“Basically, Madrid wanted me to cause war at Liverpool to get out.”

“That was the only way it would be able to happen.”

“I do think back on these things, about when Mourinho came back in for me in 2010.”

“And I do think imagine playing for Mourinho in the Champions League, it would have been an unbelievable experience.”

Gerrard rejected the move to quit his boyhood club and remained with the Anfield giants where he won a Champions League and two FA Cups.
