Griezmann: “It’s time for me to win a trophy” with Atletico

Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann believes that this could finally be the year where he wins his first piece for major silverware at the club after overcoming Arsenal to reach the final of the Europa League

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa scored the only goal just before the break was enough to seal Los Rojiblancos a 1-0 win at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Thursday night to secure to play in the final in Lyon with a 2-1 aggregate win over Gunners.

Griezmann moves to the Spanish capital from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014, French international has yet to win a major piece of silverware and is now desperate to finally put an end to Atletico’s recent trophy drought.

"It’s time for me to win a trophy,” said the French forward, according to SportsMole.

"We have had our minds set on this competition since we entered it and we know how tough it is to triumph in, we have needed to fight in every match and every round.

"We knew for the semi-final we would need to play long balls and attempt to win knockdowns and second balls, and you can see the impact of Diego (Costa).

"The atmosphere? We wanted to have that of the Vicente Calderon replicated here and tonight (Thursday) it happened, we have asked the fans to support us and they have been fantastic.”

Two-time champions Atletico will now face Marseille in their third Europa League final in eight years in Lyon on 16 May.
